I’ll admit it, I am a fool for the rankings. I check the polls every Monday, especially after a Maryland win like this weekend’s shellacking of BC, to see if Terps basketball has started to attract attention from the national press. While Maryland is still not in the Top 25 in either of the major polls, the Terps did make a big jump from #78 to #56 in the RPI rankings in the last week. Hey, it’s a start.
Could Maryland basketball be relevant again sometime soon? With winnable games coming up against Longwood, NC State, and Miami, the Terps might start getting a few votes from the pollsters before their next big test against Clemson on 1/31. It’s easy for me to say, but I’d like to see the Terps win the next two games comfortably in order for people to start taking this team seriously. As you saw in the win against BC, the Terps have all the tools to be a contender if they play with focus, but they need to continue to execute.
This might be a fun season yet!
