Did we call it, or did we call it? Only one goal off on the prediction…I’ll take my Pulitzer any time now. I was out of town and didn’t see the game, but it looks like another great chapter was written in the Terps-Blue Jays lacrosse rivalry on Saturday. And this year, for the first time in four freakin games, the Terps came out on top, staving off early scoring woes and a late Hopkins comeback to net a 10-9 victory in a physical grudge match.
Will Yeatman was able to play, and combined with fellow usual suspects Grant Catalino, Ryan Young, and Travis Reed for six goals and five assists in the effort. Hopkins attacker Steven Boyle and middies John Greely and Michael Kimmel scored all but two of the Hopkins goals. Blue Jays freshman goalie Pierce Bassett was apparently overmatched in there, as he gave up 10 goals to eight saves. This summary pointed to hustle stats as the key difference — 13 face off wins and 23 ground balls for the Terps, versus 9 and 21 in those categories for Hopkins.
Maryland maintains fourth place in this week’s poll, heading into this weekend’s ACC tournament. With ACC teams occupying four of the top five poll spots, it’ll be an interesting tournament for sure. Go Terps!
