After Steve Blake officially signed with the Lakers today:
“I love that pickup. I love that pickup. Every time I played against Blake when he was in Portland and when he matched up with me, he obviously gave up a lot in size and weight but he fought me hard every time. And I hit him with some nasty elbows, believe me, but he kept fighting, he kept battling, kept battling and to me, that’s the kind of guy I want on my team so it says a lot about him.”
– Kobe Bryant

I agree. Kobe Bryant is a very, very wise man. A more astute observer of basketball you will never find.
Kobe on K:
“He can be so intense because he’s so passionate about the game, but at the same time he has a great sense of humor. I don’t think a lot of people know that about him.”
“There’s no question in my mind that he would be a great NBA coach. . . . He has that passion about what he does and when you have that commitment to winning, you can’t help but be successful.”
“One of the greatest coaches of all time. Period.”
Often times Duke fans wonder if Kobe Bryant had not gone directly to the NBA out of high school if he “maybe” would have attended Duke and been a part of that team.
“There’s no maybe about it,” Bryant says. “Every time I turn on the TV and see Cameron Indoor Stadium, see everybody in Krzyzewskiville and see the Crazies jumping up in down with the intensity and the building almost shaking, I wonder what it would have been like to play there with Corey [Maggette] and Elton [Brand] and all those guys.”
So, yep. No doubt. Kobe knows *exactly* what he’s talking about.
Here’s the byline Scott… Steve Blake Gets His Ring by leading the Lakers to yet another NBA Championship over Lebron and the Knicks, I mean Bulls, errr the Heat, the Heat! Then you can segway into how it’s the Lakers third consecutive championship aka a “3 peat” and how Jerry Buss had to order a larger mantel to display all those shiny 24k gold overlaid thropies he’s help accumulate. Go Lakers!
Errr… not byline… I mean headline, headline! News conference on my ‘final decision’ at 9!
Tim: you’re the anchorman of Indecision 2010. Kudos to you. It’s amazing that, in the wake of LeBron becoming a punching bag, Kobe has gone from villain to hero overnight without really doing anything.
Mattjumbo: Wow. You really flipped the script on me, didn’t you? If I was your debate team supervisor, I’d give you one — no, no, TWO — gold stars. Just sparkling.
I’m not sure why Dukies are now demanding points for something that didn’t actually happen, but in any case, I really don’t think your big revelations will shock anyone. After all, Kobe Bryant is a great basketball talent, he comes from a privileged private-school upbringing, and he has a reputation for smugness and solipsism as well as a penchant for almost obsessively fixating upon (but never quite duplicating) the success of a certain University of North Carolina counterpart. And then there’s the whole rape trial thing. So yes, very much a natural fit for Duke. Imagine all the things you guys would have had to talk about!
lol, great response scott!
